Technical Requirements and Other Information

IMPORTANT: Each individual registrant is responsible for insuring IN ADVANCE that his or her computer system and Internet connection meet the minimum technical requirements to attend the conference. Neither IAA, its staff, its vendors, nor the conference speakers have the ability to diagnose or troubleshoot problems with individual registrants' computer systems or connections. Further, neither IAA, its staff, its vendors, nor the conference speakers are responsible for missed lectures if a registrant's computer system and/or Internet connection is incapable of accessing the lectures for any reason, including but not limited to operating system or software incompatibility, user error, slow connection speed, network or server failure, or any other reason.

Additionally, each individual registrant is responsible for remembering the USERNAME AND PASSWORD that he or she used to purchase the conference. THAT EXACT SAME USERNAME AND PASSWORD IS NECESSARY TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE PURCHASED LECTURES. IAA DOES NOT HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR PASSWORD IF YOU FORGET IT. Each individual registrant is also responsible for insuring IN ADVANCE that he or she is able to use the username and password to successfully log into the "My Lectures" page at the Breaking Down the Borders website. Neither IAA, its staff, its vendors, nor the conference speakers are responsible for missed lectures due to a registrant's lost or forgotten username and/or password.

In order to attend the conference, you will need a broadband connection to the Internet -- cable, DSL, satellite, etc. A dialup connection will not work.

When you register, you will need to register for each lecture you wish to attend individually. Because of the way the online facilities are configured, you cannot simply register for the entire conference, and then pick and choose your lectures at the time you attend. As you register, please be aware of overlapping time slots, etc. To see how the scheduling is arranged, click here.

During registration, you will be asked to select a username and password which you will use to log into the lectures. If you already have an IAA username and password, please use them for the conference as well. If you do not already have an IAA username and password, you can select one during registration.

Please keep your username and password in a place where you can find them. You will not be able to attend the lectures without them!

Your registration receipt and other important information will be e-mailed to you from registrar.treasurer@astrologyconference.org. Please be sure that e-mails from addresses "@astrologyconference.org" are not blocked in your e-mail program. Otherwise, these e-mails may be treated as spam and you will not receive them.

After you register, you will be able to log in using the My Lectures link to view the lectures you have registered for. Each lecture will have a special link which you will use to enter the audio-visual facility to attend the lecture. The link for each lecture will become active 30 minutes before the lecture is scheduled to begin, to allow you to log in ahead of time.

The audio-visual facilities will function on either a PC running Windows or a Mac. When you click the link to attend the lecture, you may be asked to download and install a small "plug-in" for your browser. Simply follow the instructions on the screen to allow the plug-in to download. This process may take several minutes, so be sure to allow ample time before the lecture is scheduled to begin.

When you are in the lecture, you will be able to see the presentation on your screen. You can hear the lecturer through your computer's speakers. (Make sure your speakers are turned on!) You will be able to speak (when permitted) by using your computer's microphone, if you have one connected. The lecture will also have a text chat facility, so that you can type questions and comments if you do not have (or choose not to use) a microphone.

As an alternative to speakers and microphone, each lecture will also have a dial-in telephone number and access code. If you choose, you may dial this number to hear and speak over the telephone, rather than over your computer. The telephone number is a toll-based number, so normal toll charges may apply. However, there is no additional charge for using this number; so if you have (for example) an unlimited calling plan, you should be able to call without any charge.

Please check your own calling plan before using the call-in telephone number. Also, be aware that additional charges may apply if you are calling from a non-U.S. number.

Local numbers for non-U.S. countries will be provided when possible. However, these numbers may not be available for all lectures, and may also incur charges. Again, please check your individual calling plan before using one of these numbers. Integrated audio using your computer's speakers and microphone will always be available.

If you will be using your computer's audio, rather than the telephone number, a headset with built-in microphone is strongly recommended. Otherwise, you and the other participants may experience feedback, humming, and other intereference. If you do use a microphone and speakers, please keep the microphone as far away from the speakers as possible.
